Origins

Born in Schiltigheim

Bruno Spengler was born on 23 August 1983 in Schiltigheim, near Strasbourg. His story quickly became shaped by two cultures: Alsace, with its automotive and industrial heritage, and Canada, where he grew up with an international outlook.

That dual identity gives his career a specific tone: European precision, North American energy and the ability to move naturally between very different environments.

From first laps to first titles

Living in Quebec with his family, Bruno began karting in 1995. There he learned the fundamentals that would stay with him: vision, racing line, repetition, pressure management and controlled aggression.

In 2000 he won the French Elite karting championship, then confirmed his potential in Formula Renault. In 2002, his Fran-Am title in North America strengthened his international profile and established him as one of the young drivers to watch.

In 2003, Bruno entered the Formula 3 Euro Series with the Mercedes-Benz Junior Team programme, a highly competitive championship known for developing future factory drivers. He faced a deep generation on circuits where technical precision made the difference.

A serious pre-season testing accident at Dijon-Prenois, including two fractured vertebrae, slowed his progress but did not break his momentum. This period revealed a key part of his career: the ability to come back, keep working and stay on course.

In 2005, Bruno joined DTM with Mercedes-Benz. The championship was one of Europe's toughest arenas: powerful cars, close racing, short-race strategy and permanent pressure.

In 2006 he became DTM runner-up with four wins, then confirmed that level in 2007 with another runner-up season. Those years established him as a major driver in the field and a trusted technical voice in a factory environment.

Four wins, six podiums and a controlled finale at Hockenheim secured the 2012 DTM title. It became the central sporting moment of his career and one of the great symbols of BMW's return to the top of DTM.

In 2015, Bruno joined Alex Zanardi and Timo Glock in BMW's endurance project for the 24 Hours of Spa, around a BMW Z4 GT3 and a story that became the documentary film No Limits - Impossible is just a word.

Beyond the race itself, this chapter shows another side of his career: sharing a car, a goal and a powerful human story. The preparation with Zanardi and Glock highlights trust, resilience and collective intelligence, themes that also feed his coaching work.
